Police Officer Swallows 'Bribe Money' After Arrest By EACC


A police officer in Kwale county allegedly swallowed bribe money after being cornered by Ethics and Anti-Corruption (EACC) officials.

Regional EACC boss Hassan Khalid said they had to put constable police George Ochieng under 24/7 supervision in order to retrieve the evidence when he relieves himself.

“That was our only evidence but medical experts have been called upon to assist with the report,” Khalid as quoted by The Star.

Billions Wasted On Mystery Projects By The CDF


There has been a systematic wastage of billions of shillings through mystery projects carried out by the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

Projects have been carried out over the CDF’s 12 year history that only exist on paper and were never completed. Devolution may have sped up the wastage by the CDF as government watchdogs are now focusing on county governments.

The office of the Auditor General is having difficulty keeping tabs on all the projects being undertaken by the CDF, reports the Daily Nation.

Police in South Carolina, USA, are investigating a house that functioned as an 'illegal' nursery after a photo showing a 15-year-old toes inside a seven-month-old's mouth surfaced on social media.

According to ABC13, the photo, which originally appeared on Snapchat, was passed around social media and was reportedly taken at the home where the child was being cared for.

Admittance by devolution cabinet secretary Anne Waiguru that the National Youth Service lost about KSh 800 million has seen Kenyans renew calls for action to be taken against her.

Member of Parliament (MPs) are preparing to travel to Mombasa on Sunday, September 13, on a KSh 20 million trip.

At least 120 MPs will attend the conference. The MPs will also carry aides along with them. The representatives will discuss the budget and the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) while in Mombasa.

The staff going on the trip with the MPs are further given a per diem allowance of KSh 2,500.

Mwai Kibaki Retirement Benefits Unconstitutional - Court


The presidential retirement benefits law, that granted former presidents Mwai Kibaki and Daniel Moi millions of shillings monthly, is unconstitutional.

High Court Judge Isaac Lenaola ordered the withdrawal of all the benefits the two leaders have been enjoying after finding the Presidential Retirement Benefits (Amendment) Act of 2012 not to be in accordance with the constitution.

Lenaola’s ruling on Friday, September 12, 2015 declared the law invalidated, null and void but did not specify whether the two leaders should refund the irregular benefits.

The race is on for the position of Deputy Chief Justice Kalpana Rawal, who is expected to retire in January after the Judiciary served her with a notice of retirement last week.

The position is already attracting great interest from candidates within the Judiciary as well as from lawyers in private practice and the civil society.

The succession is critical given that the Chief Justice, Dr Willy Mutunga, is also set to retire in June 2017, just two months ahead of the next General Election.

Nigerian woman arrested for biting off neighbour's nipple and swallowing it



A mother of three, Mrs. Bola Olowolagba has been accused by her neighbour, Mrs Adelowo Taiwo of biting off and swallowing her nipple during a fight, P.M.News reports. The incident occurred after an argument between the two women over the dirty state of their compound located in Shasha, Lagos.

Mrs. Taiwo narrated how Mrs. Bola, a mother of four, littered the compound after holding a party and refused to clean up. She took it upon herself to clean the compound. It was then Bola came out of her apartment and confronted her. They got into an argument which eventually led to a fight.

Photo: 18 kg tumour removed from a 17-year-old girl's stomach


Saudi doctors removed an 18-kg tumour from the abdomen of a 17-year-old local girl after she was admitted to hospital with severe pain, Emirate 24/7 reports. Officials at the government hospital in the Western town of Makkah that image scans showed the mass, measuring 30 by 25cm, spread from the upper abdomen down to the pelvis.

"It weighed nearly 18 kg, almost a third of the girl’s weight and caused sharp pain to her. The mass was removed successfully without any complications to the patient." Dr. Hilal Al Malki, a doctor at the hospital revealed.

Pupil commits suicide after parents warn against love affair


A primary school pupil committed suicide on Wednesday evening after her parents warned her against a romantic relationship.

The girl was  a class eight pupil of Makwasinyi Primary School in Voi subcounty, Taita Taveta county.

Her body was found hanging from a tree near her home at about 6pm, said Taita Taveta police commander Richard Bitonga.

ICC allows Ruto and Sang appeal case on five recanted witness statements


ICC Judges have allowed Deputy president William Ruto and former journalist Joshua Sang to appeal against the admission of recanted witness statements.

The decision is pursuant to Rule 68 of the 'Rules of Procedure and Evidence', the trial judges said on Thursday.

"According to article 82(1)(d) of the Rome Statute, authorisation to appeal the decision can be granted if the decision 'involves an issue that would significantly affect the fair and expeditious conduct of the proceedings," read a statement.
