See Where MPs Want To Travel On A KSh 20 Million Trip

Member of Parliament (MPs) are preparing to travel to Mombasa on Sunday, September 13, on a KSh 20 million trip.

At least 120 MPs will attend the conference. The MPs will also carry aides along with them. The representatives will discuss the budget and the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) while in Mombasa.

The staff going on the trip with the MPs are further given a per diem allowance of KSh 2,500.

The latest trip has come after a series of high profile trips have caused controversy. The Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) told the Daily Nation that MPs could make up to KSh one million in per diem claims from one trip abroad.

Some MPs are known to simply not go on the trips, without cancelling any reservations. The cost of these no shows still falls on the taxpayers shoulders.

The cost of trips being undertaken by government officials has become a hot button issue in Kenya.

Member of the Kisumu County assembly got into hot water in August of 2015 for traveling to Uganda to train for the Kenya Communications Sports Organisation (Kecoso) games.
