Kenya and Italy have signed two agreements that will help in combating unconventional international crimes including terrorism, cybercrimes and wildlife trafficking.
AG Githu Muigai and Italy’s Minister for Justice Andrea Orlando signed the Extradition and Mutual Legal Assistance agreements on the sidelines of Milan Expo 2015 on Wednesday.
President Uhuru Kenyatta witnessed the signing of the deals that will see Kenya and Italy support each other in domestic investigative and judicial proceedings.
The agreements enable the Office of the Attorney General and the Department of Justice to work closed with Italy's Ministry of Justice in legal matters.
They will also incorporate measures to regulate and tighten controls that will enhance the scope and definitions of criminal acts and accompanying penalties.
Kenya and Italy will benefit from an understanding of the relevant laws and procedures relating to the provision of interstate legal assistance in criminal matters.
