Joshua Waiganjo Jailed for five years

Police impostor Joshua Waiganjo was on Wednesday handed a five year jail term by a Naivasha court.

Waiganjo was found guilty of disguising as an assistant commissioner for five years, illegal possession of government equipment and wearing police uniform.

Senior Magistrate, Shadrack Mwinzi said Waiganjo failed to prove he was a police officer and did not defend his decision to wear police uniform.
In his defense Joshua Waiganjo told the court he was appointed police reservist in 2003. He said the court did not produce documents of proof recovered in his house.

Through his lawyer Simon Kamau, Waiganjo asked for leniency saying he was serving two years for a different crime.

He was however exonerated on two counts of robbery with violence after his accusers failed to testify.

Joshua Waiganjo has been behind bars since January 2013 following the assassination of over 40 police officers in Suguta valley.

Waiganjo was given 14 days to appeal.
