Mutahi Ngunyi grilled by NCIC over 'poverty-stricken' Luos remark

Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi was grilled by NCIC officials on Tuesday over remarks he made about the Luo community that bordered tribal profiling.

Ngunyi was summoned to record a statement over a post on Twitter on August 19, in which he described Luos as “poverty-stricken”.

Commenting further on a purported Kenya-Uganda sugar deal, he said opposition leader Raila Odinga should be held accountable for the economic stagnation of the region.

Raila should be put on TRIAL.The JUDGE: poverty stricken LUOs. And LUHYAs craving his bondage. CHARGE: selfishness, selfishness, selfishness,” he said.

He maintained, through a series of tweets, that Raila had let his people down and that some members of the community live below the poverty line.

Following public outcry and a letter of complaint to the NCIC from Law Society of Kenya CEO Apollo Mboya, Ngunyi apologised saying he meant no harm.

Homa Bay woman representative Gladys Wanga had also lashed out at the political analyst for the remark about the Luo community.

I apologise to the LUO NATION unreservedly. No harm INTENDED. I am a product of Luo SCHOLARS whom I RESPECT immensely. I eat the HUMBLE PIE,” he said in an August 25 Twitter post.
