Veteran actor Macharia Dishon passes on

VETERAN television and stage actor Moses Macharia Dishon is dead.

The iconic theatre figure, popularly known in the acting circles as Mashaa, passed on at the Kenyatta National Hospital on Friday after struggling with diabetes.

Macharia was widely known for his starring role in the popular comedy play Mugaathe Mubogothi by the late satirist Wahome Mutahi, as well as for his roles in several local TV drama programs.

On Sunday, his nephew Dishon Kirima wrote on Facebook: “MOSES MACHARIA DISHON aka Mheshimiwa and affectionately known to his nieces and nephews as ‘Mashaa ni JJ’....We loved you uncle, and the Lord loved you even more. After a long and hard struggle with diabetes, you finally came to rest on the early hours of Friday 28th, August 2015. Rest in Peace.”

Actor, comedian and TV personality Kazungu Matano said: “You may have watched him in a horde of Kenyan TV programmes, movies and TVC’s. He was ecstatic. He has gone to be with the Lord. He served the theatre industry well. He will forever be missed and his input will not be forgotten. To his family, may the good Lord give you strength to walk through these trying times. Till we meet again my brother, my friend.”

His burial has tentatively been set for Tuesday next week in his ancestral home in Murang’a. Our heartfelt condolences to Macharia’s family, friends and fans.
