Kalonzo Is Still The Kamba Elder, MPs Tell Alfred Mutua

Members of Parliament from the Ukambani region, allied to Cord co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka, have faulted a move by other leaders to install Governor Alfred Mutua as the community’s kingpin.

The leaders said the move is a plot by Jubilee politicians to split the Kamba vote ahead of the 2017 elections.

“The governor should stop the ongoing campaign of ridiculing Kalonzo since the community still has faith in his leadership… I was not elected on a Wiper party but I have a reason to defend Kalonzo since he’s the community’s elder and time to replace him is not yet ripe,” Yatta MP Francis Mwangangi of Muungano party as quoted by The Standard on August 25, 2015.

The leaders accused Alfred Mutua of using Machakos county funds to run ‘Maendeleo Chap Chap’ campaigns in other counties in the region instead of serving the people.

Kathiani MP Robert Mbui claimed that Governor Mutua is being used by political detractors of the community.

Mutua denied the reports that he is keen on edging out the former vice president as the Ukambani leader.

He had in the past defended his close ties with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration saying that he would continue to work with anyone as long as it it for the development of Machakos.

However, his backers; MPs Vincent Musyoki (Mwala), Regina Ndambuki (Kilome), Rachael Nyamai (Kitui South), Benson Mbai (Masinga),John Munuve (Mwingi North), Joe Mutambo (Mwingi Central) and TIP-TIP Party leader Kalembe Ndile insist that the time is ripe for Kalonzo to be replaced.

They say Alfred Mutua would rescue the community from poverty.
