Kericho magistrate, clerk arrested over Sh10,000 bribe

A magistrate and a court clerk were arrested at Kericho law courts on Thursday over bribery allegations.

Anti-graft police raided the court after one suspect, whose case ruling was to be made that Thursday, tipped them off.

Magistrate Judith Nyagor and court clerk Robert Cheruiyot were arrested with Sh10,000 each, which the graft team had photocopied to match serial numbers on Sh1,000 notes.

The two received money from the suspect, who had been accused of running a bar without a trade license, in order to terminate his case or deal leniently with him.

Nyagor allegedly hid when she learned of the anti-graft officers' presence, but later surrendered herself.

County police commander Rose Muchuma said the two were taken to Kericho police station where they recorded statements, but declined to give more details.

The suspects will be charged in Nakuru on August 28.
